-Conti...How my SW Ohio township is handling $s short fall from Columbus.
1-Moved the contract negotations up one year with vote by Police and Fire/EMS later this week.
2-W/O new contract five members each Police and Fire/EMS to be laid off.
3-Each department has one member each resigning and those positions will not be backfilled.
4- Fire/EMS to have pay raises frozen for 3 years, including changes in insurance and overtime issues.
5-Township has agreed to put a 1 mil 5-year levy on 2012 ballot for Fire/EMS.
6-Nothing appears to occur with Police manning or issues unless the contract is rejected.
Note #1: Every 10 years the County auditor is required to reassess real estate property values. An average of 30% decrease in tax revenue will impact the Township revenue stream starting 3Q12.
Note #2: If Ohio Issue #2 were to have passed, the steps above would not have to be repeated a thousand X thousand times over for every burg, township across Ohio.
Enough!
